“Do something today that will encourage you to blossom.”

Since a young age, my dad has instilled a love of the great outdoors, but mainly, wildflowers. During our summers in southern Colorado, he would teach/show me flowers on all our hikes. He also did a project with me, collecting photos of flowers we found, printing them, and creating a book broken down by family. There are some images still missing, but I have decided to use this book as my next inspiration/project for my illustration studies.
I chose to do this, not only because this book holds a special place in my heart, but I am looking forward to studying the Colorado wildflowers more to learn more about them and reeducate myself on identification. I would love to teach my children the flowers as we hike. If I’m without my dad, sometimes I just don’t know a flower. I also would like to see this book grow, capturing the flowers we never found in the 90s, but also capturing the photos we’ve seen since—i.e. the Fairy Slipper. That is a story for another day.
I’d love for you to follow along this journey. I’ll be using two hashtags to keep this organized: #procreatewildflowers #beccascoloradowildflowerbook. If you are drawing some wildflowers, please tag me or use the hashtag #procreatewildflowers so I can see!
